Bhakti - Beloved: Yoga of Devotion

Bhakti - Beloved Yoga of Devotion

Bhakti (devotion) Yoga, involving singing and dancing, a path of re-union with the Divine for people of any caste, arose in India around two thousand years ago. Compared to the monastic approach of devotion, the Bhaktis have always been people who lived 'in the world' rather than retreating from it.

Many of the melodies and words of the songs on this CD have survived almost unchanged since that time, gathering layers of meanings and associations, uniting rich and poor, rulers and ruled, in the uncountable myriads of times that they have been sung over the centuries.

This CD shares a more traditional rendition of Indian chant framed unobtrusively by modern sounds and rhythms. The result is a rich and heartfelt experience. Bhakti is an ensemble of western and eastern musicians, including Indian virtuosos violinist Avinash Jagtap, bamboo flute maestro Bikkram Singh, and prodigious tabla player Manish Vyas (Water Down The Ganges). Music arranged by Chinmaya Dunster (Yoga: On Sacred Ground). A performance you don't want to miss!
